On the Hair Front

1. I was retightened over the weekend by a local consultant here in Cleveland. She is very sweet and I am quite pleased with the results of her work. To find somebody who won't jeopardize the integrity of Paulette's foundation is more than a notion. But I do believe this new consultant may be a keeper.

2. I am finally scheduled to take the retightening class on June 30th. I'm anxious, scared, nervous, and excited all at the same time. I'm still appalled that the price doubled since two years ago.

3. Check out the two new baby locks! Like many others, my hairline suffered something terrible from the braids and relaxer damage. I was almost starting to believe the damage was irreversible. Nearly two years later, better late than never sure is the truth. I'm still hoping to gain enough peach fuzz on the other side to form some new locks.

4. The dandruff and itching was getting the best of me and I had to try something new. I went back to Sunsail's blog and decided to try her Nizoral shampoo remedy. I ordered the 2% solution from a Canadian pharmacy website. From reading over some product reviews, I learned that in the US you can only get the 2% solution with a prescription and it cost a pretty penny. The Canadian pharmacy sold it for a fraction of the cost and no prescription needed.

I diluted it with water because heck, I dilute almost everything nowadays that I use in my hair. After two weeks and just one time of using the shampoo, I went from 100% filthy, McNasty head full of dandruff to maybe 10% dandruff. I suspect that as I continue to use the shampoo, the dandruff will go away even more. It's so nice to not have my shoulders and pillows buried in dandruff. Girl, you know I'm kicking myself for not trying this stuff earlier when you wrote about it.

5. Last but not least, I love my Sisterlocks!

Hi Good,

Wow, you're brave!! I don't know that I'll ever willingly retighten my own hair... I think I'm in the Brunsli and Blaq camp. I'll do it in a pinch, but I would be too afraid of combining locks and messing the pattern up.

YAAAAAAAAY!!! I'm sooo happy that you tried the shampoo, and that it's WORKING for you!!! I use the good ol' over the counter one that you can pick up at your local drugstore. It's only 1% of the active ingredient, AND I dilute it 50/50 with water. I noticed a difference in about two weeks. Yeah, that dandruff mess is embarassing, especially when wearing black. Now it is SO good that I have to remind myself to wash my hair. I go 3 weeks in between washing, not because flakes reappear, but because it's just TIME!! That is awfully liberating.
Congrats on your baby locks!! that is definitely a good sign that what you are doing is working for you.

Glad you found someone who could possibly be your retightening replacement! Your SLs are growing and looking lovely as usual. Love the new blog color*****************

Your locks sure look healthy! I am glad you got something that you needed for the dandruff. I will have to keep that in mind.

As for the retigthening class....I can't believe the price doubled. That kind of stinks. Does the cost vary from consultant to consultant or is there a standard price from the home office?

Congrats on your new baby locks. I thought I was the only one with dandruff problems. Glad that you found something that works for your dandruff.( Is there a such thing as a cure for dandruff? or does it always reappear after you stop using products that have suprresed it?)
Because the product I use it works but I when I stop using it for a while the dandruff reappears. I think I might give that shampoo a try because I get tired of greasing my scalp every so often.

Good luck and have fun at your retightening class. I really regret not taking the class now (due to my sickness) They usually offer the class down here twice a year but I recently found out its only been offered once. So I have to wait until next year. However I don't know if I can wait that long. I want to learn now . Anyways enough about me sorry I left a novel on your page! lol Your locks are still looking lovely!

Look at those sweet babies, I just love it because I have one that was injured from braids too!

It's been two years and mine is now about one inch long.

Cluizel - Thanks for the compliment. Baby hair is understandable, but a missing
section of hair at the hairline is another. That's really how I would define my new babe locks. Sometimes after a fresh relaxer, I almost broke down in tears it looked so awful. Even if I don't get anymore locks, at least there is fuzz growing in and it makes my hairline look so much better.

Sunsail - with the DIY retights, it's really a matter of necessity. There's no way you can always be on somebody else's schedule all the time. If other ladies before me are doing it, there's no reason I can't either. Plus I do plan on
rotating between my own retights and w/consultant. I know going into this I will not be cutting my consultant out of the equation 100%. Plus waiting any longer, who knows what they will jack the price up to.

With the shampoo, thanks for sharing. I'm glad to know you diluted yours with water as well. When I run out of the 2%, I will pick up the 1% locally too and only go back to the 2% if necessary.

Thanks for the compliment.

Jen - Thanks so much and I most certainly will!

Aya - Thanks so much. With the outrageous gas prices, it has got to the point where DIY retightening and a local consultant is really a necessity
vs. optional.

NTG - Thanks so much for stopping by. I see you've been incognito
on us. I'll add you to my links. Keep us posted on your updates as well.

Tra - Oh thanks for much for the compliment. You know at one time I was starting to become a conditioner addict. Due to my locks not sealing like I wanted, I had to end the addiction. But the leave in gives me
such a nice fix.

With the dandruff, not only was I irritated from it being all over the place, but it was getting trapped in my locks. Due to getting trapped in my locks, taking some preventative action was a must!

With the retightening - I believe the home office sets the price as this is what the cost is on the website. I do believe consultants can set their own price but I have no idea what expenses they are
incurring. I'm taking the class with Elaniece and at least I have
some extra satisfaction since she is driving to Cleveland to give
me the training. Not that I wasn't willing to drive. But it is nice to
have the roles reversed.

Sistalocd - Thanks so much girlie. The pain in the neck problem with dandruff is very very common. As far as I know, there probably is no cure for dandruff, just relief from the symptoms. Should someone come up with a cure, you can
bank that first million.

Creyole - Well it's good to know I'm not the only one with babe locks still coming in. Congrats on yours as well.

newbies are always nice. i may have to try the remedy in #4. which pharmacy did you use?

Thanks Muslimahlocs. I ordered from canpharm.com.

ok, so who'd you go with in Cle????? tell me!
I still have baby locks 2.by the way, i think it means your hair is growing...because where i only had fuzz, i am finding i have to latch the fuzz into a lock, so it's like the edges(all around)are regenerating themselves. ...just my hypothesis.

Great that hair has regrown - that's a positive sign! Taking the class is a good idea - you should have options, even if you don't always need to use them. And finding someone to do your hair locally is going to save you a mint in gas!

Cheleski - I would have to agree with your hypothesis 100%.

Brenda - You couldn't be more right. Thanks a bunch. But I bet we could blog for days our theories about the gas price issue.

Ja Stu - Thanks so much for the compliments. That's good you are happy with your SL decision. The hair grows so fast right before your eyes.

Kim - Thanks so much for the tag. I don't mean to be a party pooper but I have been tagged twice already. I'm not sure I can think of 7 more things to share. Perhaps a sign it's time to take up some new and interesting activities.

Sis RJ - Thanks so much hon. Like everyone else, I'm trying to be well rounded with the posts.

Mel - Thank you so much deary.

I'll have to keep this shampoo in mind. I'm glad your hairline is recovering. I used to twirl and twist the hair at my crown so much that I broke it off to half the size or less than the rest. Now - you can't tell it ever happened. The good part about it, I don't do it anymore.

Goodnapps said...

Still W - Thanks so much hon!! I am concerned if the locks will slip out when I wash which is scheduled for this evening. I'm hoping that by holding them down with a bobby pin it will help. Wish me luck.

Carmen - I'm glad you got over your twirling addiction. So far so good with the shampoo. I am quite pleased with it.

Cluizel - thanks for the questions. Some require more thought than others which is definitely all good.
