Wrapaloc Set

My wrapalocs orders consisted of 4 medium packs, 2 small packs and the instructional DVD. I washed my hair and then blow dryed it a little. Instead of a deep condition, I opted to use the SL cream moisturizer on each section of hair. I did NOT use any setting gel, foam or spray. I used about 35 small tools and 18 medium tools. To save time, I purposely used about 7-8 locks per tool with the exception of the front. Whether I actually saved time or not is definitely up for debate. I would say I spent about an hour putting the tools in. Another 20 minutes was spent gawking in the mirror and saying to myself, "What are you doing? This doesn't look anything like the instructions." So out the window went the benefit of not being able to see the tools in the hair.

I contemplated wearing a covering on my head the next day. But I played with the sections some more until my hair had more of a bantu knot look. Since under normal circumstances I don't know how to create bantu knots, I was perfectly fine with this look.

My co-workers sure know how to make a gal feel special. The compliments kept pouring in and I believe they thought the tools were some sort of hair ornaments. But since I was too self-conscious about the tools showing, I only wore them in for 1 day. When I took them out the next day, below is the result. Not bad for somebody who didn't follow directions.

So after all is said is done, is wrapalocs worth the money? I'll put it this way....
YES - if you love your soft spikes curler set but wish the curls would last a week or two longer.
NO - if you complained your soft spikes set was too curly and you purposely went out of your way to make the curls looser.

Pictured above, the curls have fallen after about 4 days. Since I don't see myself using the recommended 3 locks per tool right now, I am perfectly happy with my results. I'll reserve this for use in the future as my hair gets longer. However, I will strive to hide the tools more in the front next time so that I'll feel more comfortable wearing the bantu knot look a few more days.

awww...pretty! :-)

I think the softspikes set my hair too tightly so I suppose I will pass on the wrapalocs. Thanks for the tip!

Your hair looks great. I may end up buying them.

Cluizel - Thanks.

Muslimahlocs - Thanks. That reminds me to style my hair as often as I can. So if something should happen in the future to prevent me from doing so, at least I can look back on the good ole days.

Naturalist1 - Thanks. If you want curls that will last at least a month, they will do the trick if you follow the instructions. I just opted not to, as 2 to 2.5 weeks is enough for me right now.

Very nice. I was thinking about buy them at the Locks Conference this past fall but I decided to wait until I decide what I'm going to do with my hair.

Okay I really need to start using bloglines because I am always late! lol

Your curls look great! The WrapALocks are still defitnitely on my wish list. I love the idea of being able to still walk around with the tool in as a style, especially if you are pressed for time! I think you did a terrific job for not following the directions.

I will admit I was never a fan of small tight curls but as my hair gets longer I am starting to like smaller curls especially since they last longer.

But before I purchase those tools I still need to play with my SS's a lil more. Thanks for the photos your hair is looking great!
By the way have you lost more weight? You look good girl, have a good one and take care,
V

Your hair came out nice. Thanks for posting the results. I think I will wait a bit. Only because I don't think I will be able put them in myself. I think I will like how it looks once I can get someone to put them in for me. :-)
Thanks again for sharing.

Meikmeika - Thanks so much girlie. I think it has to hit you. But once you start, you're probably not going to want to stop.

Sophia, Lakia - thanks ladies.

Quietspirit - thanks. I find the tool to be quite an interesting concept. You have me curious, what are you going to do with your hair??

Sistalocd - my dear you are never too late in my book. Up until now, I had no idea what the concept of "too tight" curls actually meant. I found myself looking forward to them loosening up. So this tool is definitely a winner in my book. I don't have plans to abandon my SS's altogether though. There are times I'm going to want to do a 15 minute set and be done with it.

As for the weight, right before the holidays I did shed some more pounds and started doing Zumba to help keep it off. I got down to 135 which I hadn't seen since the year 2000. So far so good. Thanks for noticing!!!!

Napptown - Thanks so much and I feel you completely. That's another reason why I didn't go there with the 3 locks per tool set. One of these days, it will be worth it to let somebody roll it like that for me.

Thanks for the compliment on my artwork. I went through your whole blog and I love the different hair styles you had -those hair styles fit you well. I can't wait to have my long hair back and be on the styling bandwagon too.

Hey GN

I am too am happy you posted about this tool I think I will invest in some. I just love the fact that you can wear the tool in your hair, for a while and still have a style when you take them out. And your locks are so well formed and lovely so beautiful they are maturing nicely. Thanks again for sharing.

one love still

I tend to like a looser curl so I favor the 3rd picture. I wish I had the the time to experiment more with other styles. I commend you for your efforts and sharing them with all of us.

Theartist - It's only fair to give credit where credit is due. Thank you so much for the compliments. It is definitely worth the wait.

Still W - Why thank you and you are so welcome. Right now my hair is looser (which I like) but in some spots I am still pulling curls apart. I really like this tool. On the expensive side, but worth the money in my opinion.

Aya - thanks so much. There's only so much time I'm going to spend. An hour for 2 weeks of curls is very much worth it to me.

I like the styles and you look so happy with your locks. Who said you can't style locks? They were telling stories :-).

Sez - thank you so much for the compliment. I am very much happy with my locks and rarely have anything negative to say about them. If I do, I always strive to find a solution so I can make the situation work.

I am using the SS for curls but I am cursing the whole time I`m putting them in and taking them out. I can only normally stand about 15 mins under the dryer before I have had enough. The effort is always worth it.

Kathryn - I can definitely understand.

You just saved me hundreds of dollars. You described EXACTLY what I do after taking out my Soft Spikes. Matter of fact, I am sitting here at this Mac now running my fingers through my locks in an attempt to loosen them up.

Thank you, my Lock Sister.

Namaste,

LL

Oh, and as far as Soft Spikes + longevity . . . humph, I spritz/wet my hair with water, put my hair on the SS and girrrrrl, these curls go on and on and ONNNN for days. No problem with them lasting here. Matter of fact I get tired of the curls they last so long with Soft Spikes . . .LOL

I'm going to get some large ones.

Thanks so much for your blog. I'm sisterlocked, middle of my back length. Eager to get curls that will last. I want curls, not spikes. Will this work for me. Also, did anyone notice the price doubled since it appeared in September Essence? Capitalist blah.
