Things On My Mind

1. I just got my 4th Sisterlock journal in the mail yesterday. I absolutely love reading through the magazine. I'll probably renew my subscription with the expectation that I am being promised 4 magazines, not when I'm going to receive them.

2. This morning I noticed that a couple of my locks still look pretty fuzzy. I think they were missed since we really had to rush at the end of the session. I'll be buying a new pair of trimming scissors this week. So much for my comment to Brenda about not being a chronic groomer. I'll make the trade off for volume, just give me the perfect dreads!!! "Perfect Dreads" ---what an oxymoron.

3. The layers just aren't my friends anymore. I've reached that stage where my length feels like it's all over the place with no definite direction. Long here, short there. The grooming makes it so much more apparent. I never knew my hair grew so slow at the top. Was it always this way? Wearing that famous Halle Berry cut for so long I never noticed. Keeping the back and sides faded down was a must back then. Some bunching from those first couple months was a setback as well for growth in the top. Recall I never braided or banded.

But anyway, freestyling just isn't the same anymore and I'm not as confident about the gawking and judging. It's probably all in my head, but I can't help feeling this way. So I have to protect them. I'll be sporting a lot more hairtie and lockscrunchie styles for a little while.

4. My concessions to get my ends to seal more paid off!! The ends are so much more hard and sturdy it's a night and day difference. I will keep up the regimen a bit while more.

I say all in your head! To me, your hair always looks so cute. I love your volume and thickness and wish I could steal a little. But probably after a wash, your fullness will be back, just fewer fuzzies.

Hey girl. I know what you mean about the layers and the freestyle. Although I really like the freestyle on you I just can't tolerate it on me so I am still wearing a lot of updo's. It keeps me from getting to ansty about my hair.

Your hair has really grown just since October. I hope you can see the difference because I sure can. Keep up the good hair care it is working for your chick!

Mel - thanks so much and yeah I know...you're right. If I finger comb all of my front locks to the back I've taken a liking to wearing my freestyle that way.

Still Waters - Thanks and you're welcome. I can understand you on the grooming. There are pluses and minuses to having it done or not.

Brenda - Thanks so much. But really, the thick volume isn't there yet. And surprisingly the volume or lack there of no longer bothers me. I guess I'll credit that to the grooming. It the layers and not an ounce of evenness that's getting to me.
I guess I'm getting antzy and impatient of the wait and see plan.

Tra - thanks so much. If it wasn't for me blogging and doing all the photo taking, I don't think I
would notice my growth as much. Funny how when you look in the mirror everyday it seems like your hair is always in the same spot.

Hey good,

glad to see you're progressing nicely!! I feel you on your concessions. Since my gflaking has cleared up, i can go w/o washing my hair for 2-3 weeks, which i think gives it the opportunity to do its thing!!

Random question: since your hair grows unevenly, could you cut the fast growing parts to give the slow growing sections time to catch up?? I don't know much about this...

Mine too! I so feel you on the slow growth at the top of your head.

Regardless, your locks are healthy and beautiful. Here's where the patience comes in...agian!

Sunsail - Thanks for the suggestion. But while I'm being impatient, I won't be sacrificing any length because of it right now. I am planning on doing
this type of cut around my 4th year because I know the back will be way out of proportion with the front. I should have plenty of length to spare by then.

Creyole - Thanks. I'm defnitely in need of that patience reminder. Every now and then it hits you and you say to yourself, "I'm tired of waiting!"

Chosen - Thanks so much. Funny how before I got locks, picturing how I would look in them was
something I tried but didn't really succeed. I just had to go with blind faith.

Mel and Brenda - Ok I'll say it...you were right. It is starting to fill back in some. I tell ya, So much to learn, so much patience to behold.

Thanks for sharing. I'd love to make some of the concessions you did and go two weeks without washing my hair, but I just can't deal with a dirty scalp (or a dirty anything for that matter). I'd love to see a post on how you maintain your hair in between washings so that it's clean and dandruff free!

(btw, I can't make it to Paulette's meet-up or the Homecoming because I've got conflicting travel plans, but I hope to make at least one sometime next year!)

Shanessence - Hun I wish I could do that kind of post. But I am still in search of the perfect shampoo or concoction that will do the trick. I will be the first to admit that after that first week, it is torture. But we all pick and choose our priorities as we see fit. Keep me posted should you come across any remedy that looks promising.

BTW - I won't be attending either of those myself. But perhaps we'll both be able to attend another meet and greet in the near future.

GN, thanks for the post to my blog...layers eventually do their thing. Mine used to bother me also. You're rockin' them strong and cute right now...just hang in there. You'll love them even more as they mature and you gain some more length. I love your styles and versatility. Each look is great on you. So simply enjoy this stage and anticipate the next! Love, Blaq

Blaq - Thanks so much dear. I will do as prescribed.
