Making Some Adjustments

Almost fifteen months into my journey, it is about that time for me to make some adjustments. Although I have no slippage issues and the shaft of my locks are encasing pretty good, my ends aren't sealed enough to my satisfaction.
So here's my plan of action:
-Shampoos are to be spread out 2.5 to 3 weeks instead of 7-10 days.
-Use a shampoo mixture of both the Sisterlock Aloe and Green tea shampoos diluted with water of course.
-After about a week and a half after shampooing, use a cotton swab to clean my scalp with my tonic for dandruff recipe.
-Hold off on using the SL Reconstructor for the next few months.
-Continue to use Carol's Daughter Khoret Amen Leave-in conditioner diluted with water once every two weeks. I love that it gives my hair a non-oily sheen and does not prevent my ends from sealing.
-Because I am going longer between shampoos, I may have to start spritzing with the SL Moisture treatment. I use 90% water, 10% solution. But I don't see a need for any more than once every few weeks, if that. I rarely spritz now.
-I'm bracing myself for a grooming in April. I've already discussed with Paulette that it is strictly for trimming the fuzzy hair among the lock shaft. No fatty or unruly ends are to be messed with. We are in agreement.

So this is my plan. As long as I can stick with it, I'm anxious to see my progress in the next 6-8 months. Wish me luck.

Hi Tanya! Love your locs!! Your progress is wonderful! What joy you must feel! Keep up the good work...and, I think your plan of action sounds great! I'm taking note...especially the part about the shampooing and conditioning!

Sounds like a plan! :) I guess me being lazy about washing my hair isn't a bad thing...

(Not like I can comment on it since I am what? 5 seconds in. :))

Awww...I miss Paulette!

I'm sure your progress will be a good one. Question: Does shampooing more than 10 days help the locing process? I'm also lazy when it comes to shampooing.

Thanks Lashaune, Aundrea, Michelle and Naturalist1.

Naturalist1 - water does play a part in causing slippage and also loosening up the ends as in my case. Not washing for several weeks and months is too extreme in my opinion. In general, I can feel my ends tightening up after about week. But weekly washings are taking me back to square one and not giving them time to settle. At least I think anyway. I'm doing this trial and error and hoping to find a balance.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I also had to slow down with the shampooing, let us know how it turns out!

Your locs are looking great! It sounds like you are being proactive on your locs. Not to discourage you, but I still have curly q's on some of my locs. It isn't that many, but I do still have them and it will be 3years in January. I like those few curlys though. But keep us updated on your progress. I have been meaning to try that oil from Carol's Daughter. I hear good things about it. Thanks so much for the invite too.

Thanks Sistalocd and Ree-C. I'll definitely keep everyone updated on my progress. I'm practical things don't happen overnight so that's why I've given myself 6-8 months to see some improvement.

Ree-C: I'm so excited you can make the meet & greet. I can't wait to meet you.

I'm sure that plan will work perfectly. I too love Carol's Daughter Khoret Amen Leave-in conditioner but use it every other day because the smell is so awesome!

Tanya,

I am sure the work that you put into your hair will be well worth it. I had to also cut down on washing in order to allow my locks to settle in during the first 1 1/2 of my locks. I washed my hair every two weeks or 2.5 weeks and that worked well. I used Carol's Daughter Tui Leave-in Conditioner and Tui and Khoret hair oils because I did get more dandruff by waiting so long, but the hair oil combated that problem.

Thanks Cheleski. I still can't seem to get through on your blog. But at least I tried.

Every two days! LaChanda oh LaChanda!

Abena - thank you so much! Coming from someone with locks as beautiful as yours, this is
extremely encouraging. You are right on about the dandruff. With the cold weather back, less deep conditioning and longer washing intervals, it's driving me insane. I may have to give your remedy a try. Thanks again!

Tanya, I think you have come up with a good plan. My hair does better if I only wash it every 2 weeks. I didn't realize that our lock dates were so close. I'll be locked 17M next week. I just recently noticed that a lot of my ends are sealing. Keep us posted. Regardless our locks are rockin'!

Blaq - why thanks so much for the encouragement. I do appreciate it.

Tanya, I love your hair. It looks so healthy and so sassy. I am all about sassy hair. I will be watching to see how everything works for you. Here I am 4 weeks into my journey and I've only washed my hair once. I will probably wash it again this week before my retightening. I was tempted so many days to wash it just because I thought it would be dirty and nasty, but on the same token, I didn't want to over do it. From reading your post and all of the other ladies comments I guess I'm doing this right. LOL. I was so accustomed to washing my hair everyday when I wore my TWA so this is a struggle for me. But I realize that water is not my friend, at least not until my hair is settled and actually locs up. Thanks for the advice!

Our lock birthdays are only two months a part. I like your "adjustment plan." Some of my ends are sealed others aren't and like you slippage has not been a problem for me (thank goodness). Keep us posted on your progress. I may use some of your tips.

Hi Tanya,

I think I need to follow part of your action plan by shampooing less. I started shampooing every week about 5 months ago because I had my locks lightened and they felt so dry. I am experiencing slippage in certain parts of my hair and they occur over and over again. I just got my locks maintained this Friday, I'm going to see if I can hold off for about 3 weeks without washing just to give may hair a chance to 'hold'.
