Lock Repair

After having my locks retightened two weeks ago by new consultant, I had a WTF moment when I saw one of my front locks had a bunched knot right near the root. I'm saying there's no way she didn't know she did this. It feels like a hot mess! Urghh. And it is one of my front locks. So everytime my hand-in-hair-itis struck, of course my finger landed directly on the bunched knot. This unkempt lock was really irking me.

So each day as I would say to myself the least she could of done was try to fix it. I mean just take a comb and...... well that's it! I knew at that moment what I had to do. I found one of my rat tail combs and started combing at the bunched knot. When it was loosened enough, I finger rolled it back into place with the rest of the lock. No more bunched knot and my lock is back to looking all perfect again. I'm learning from this locking experience, sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands.

Don't be afraid to trust your own judgement.

I wish I had the courage you have. I don't know what I would have done. As of right now I want to start retightening my own hair. Not that I have any complaints, it just when you see a few locks that you don't care to see I think I would feel better if I was the cause and not anyone else. I even bought a nappylocks tool, and I tried it out on one of my locks, it seems fairly easy to use. I just don't have the courage yet to do my own hair because I'm afraid I will make a mistake. Anyhow enough about me, I'm glad that you where able to fix that problem.

Chele - You are so right. I'm now starting to see why some folks get fickle and swear by doing their own hair.

Sistalocd - Believe me, I know exactly how you feel. I will be the first to say I really did not see me doing my own hair. But based on how my journey started out in the first place, it was pretty much inevitable. But now I am finally at that place mentally where I've told myself I CAN maintain my own hair and I'm NOT going to jack it up. Especially
no more than what anybody else has already been doing.

Now that I feel this way and I've already seen the great locs of women who maintain their own hair -
my DIY fears have passed. It's time to get the party started!

Ohhh I had some of those bumps at my roots where my consultant had not pulled them completely through, I pulled those that I could and I unpicked 1 or 2 and have made a mental note to bring it up at my next retightening.

Go ahead they girl! I will make corrections as I see fit in between sessions.

One thing I do think we all have to remember is there is no such thing as perfection. I constantly and touching my hair while I am driving or watching TV. I thought I would be over it by now but I am not (lol). In any case I have to keep myself from doing drastic things when I feel locks that seem to be the wrong size. By that I mean waaaay too small or larger than the rest in same vicinity.
Oh well...let the journey continue!

I agree with the comments on this post. You took care of business, and quick. I like the side view of your locks.

Blessings

AFKG - yeah girl, an ongoing problem is definitely
worth a chit chat.

Tra - Oh I know what you mean on the perfection tip. Making corrections is one thing, resorting to unnecessary tactics is another. Since nobody's definition of perfection is the same, it's a matter of keeping
things in balance.

This is a topic most folks could easily do their own blog post about.

Aya - Thanks girl. It was definitely better to fix it while the roots aren't settled yet.

good for you! your hair looks fabulous. we are really the only ones who notice those minor imperfections. to the outside world, our hair looks perfect!

Muslimahlocs - Thanks lady! I think if we all didn't notice the imperfections and try to do away with them, that wouldn't even be consistent with being drawn to SLs.

We have to do what we have to do. I have been cutting and twisting ever since the beginning when I felt something wasn't right.

You locks are looking good and full and healthy.

Awwww.. I understand your frustration. Sometimes, we do have to take matters into our own hands. I am glad you are back to being happy with your locks again, after that one lock was corrected.

nDrea - Thanks so much hon. I tried my attempt at self-retights and made my own know and then combined that lock with the one next to it. Oh well. At least the error is way on the last back row.

Dreamangel - Thanks. From what I just wrote to ndrea, there can be hazards to taking matters into your own hands as well.
